ということで、わたしは不実を働かれた夫のように
あなたが真にわたしを愛していると思いながら暮らしていくのだろうか？
あなたが心変わりをしたとしてもわたしを愛する表情はいつまでも変わらないように見えるかもしれない
あなたがわたしに愛する眼差しを向けていても心はほかのひとに向けられているかもしれない、
なぜならあなたの顔にはわたしを嫌う色をうかがうことができないからだ
だからあなたの外見からはあなたの心変わりを知ることはできない
多くのひとびとの表情を見れば、偽りのこころは
怒りやしかめ面や奇妙な皺として現れる、
だがあなたが誕生したときに 天は
あなたの顔にはいつもやさしい愛の表情が浮かべられるように命じたのだ
あなたの考えあるいは思いがなんであろうとも
あなたの外見はそれとは別にやさしい表情を示す、
あなたの素晴らしい内面の美徳があなたの見た目に相応しないのであれば
あなたの美しさはいかにもイヴのりんごのような実を結ぶだろう！
