わたしの罪深い肉体の真ん中にあるあわれな心よ
お前を包囲し飾り立てる反乱軍に糧食を供する心よ
どうしてお前は外壁をそんなにも豪華に飾り立てるかわりに
内部はやつれて飢えに苦しむのか？
どうしてお前はそんなにも膨大な経費を老朽化する邸宅のために
つぎ込むのか 賃借期間はそんなにも短いにもかかわらず？
この余剰分の相続人である虫けらがお前の家賃を食い尽くすのか？
こうしてお前の肉体は最期を迎えるのか？
そして、心よ、お前は召し仕えの損失によって生き延び
お前の蓄えを増やすためにそれを飢えさせ
無駄に費やす時間を売って神々しい時間を買うがいい
内面に重きを置いて外観はもはや飾ることをやめよ
そうすればお前は人間を食らう死神を食らうことができるだろう
死神が死んでしまえばもはやお前が死ぬことはないのだ。

And let that pine to aggravate thy store;
Buy terms divine in selling hours of dross;
Within be fed, without be rich no more:
So shall thou feed on Death, that feeds on men,
And Death once dead, there's no more dying then.
